Easy Link Posting with WP-Drudge

We’ve seen some great uses of our theme over the last couple of years and we’re always looking to our users to help focus and improve this theme.

Just recently, one of our power users helped me figure out a problem with the Press This Reloaded plugin. His workflow was greatly improved by this little tool and the latest release made it less capable (specifically, the URL was not going into the “Outbound link” field). We worked together and got it functioning even better than it was before.

First, I realized that some folks might not be aware of this plugin or might be having the same problem. Then, it occurred to me that there are a lot of things that can be done to make posting much, much easier.

So I made a video. I walk through a few of the things I do to make posting easier and how to use the Press This Reloaded plugin to make your life easier.

In addition, some of the steps I talk about above are listed below to help you navigate:

  • First go to Appearance > WP-Drudge options > Advanced tab
    • Not adding post or page content? Check “Remove post and page editor.” If you need the editor later, you can come back and uncheck.
    • Not using custom fields? Check “Remove custom field display” to hide these as well.
  • Now, go to Posts > Add New
    • Click the Screen Options tab on the top right and remove unused features. You can also switch the editor to a single column which creates a simple work flow from top to bottom.
    • Now, drag and drop the boxes to rearrange the page; put them in the order you add each item
  • Install the modified Press This Reloaded plugin using the steps here. This will let you create posts directly from the article you’re reading.

What about an Android app to share directly from our Phones and tablets?

There is an Android WordPress app but it doesn’t support additional post fields so it wouldn’t work with this template, unfortunately. That said, I think the WP backend is fairly mobile-friendly so give it a try in your mobile browser.
